Congratulations : Bitchin’ Blog(ger)s in 2010

So, WordPress, my host site, recently sent out an e-mail to all of its users with a summary of overall blog stats for 2010. It was extremely personalized and even included the header photo from my most-visited article, which, needless to say, was very flattering. Kudos to the folks who designed the e-mail template: they sent the same fucking thing to a million people and I think each one of us ended up feeling special.

For me, the most interesting WordPress revelation was the list of top search terms that led to my site. Turns out, a lot of people come here by accident, and sometimes-to-usually they’re way off track. It’s a good thing that I’m fond of self-deprecating humor, because otherwise, the data could have seriously threatened my already flaky morale.

Let me lay it out for y’all. The top five search terms that brought internet vagabonds to Oh My Massilia in 2010 were: femen, oz of weed, yaeba, femen tits, and gainsbourg.

Now, I could almost be proud of that list, especially with Serge thrown in there, who obviously adds an ounce of class, and you’re probably wondering why I’m complaining.

Well, the thing is, while femen was the most common single word, it was virtually always accompanied by something inane and pornographic. I clearly remember seeing that googlers had been performing intense research on “sexy ass and vagina femen.” Or “huge juicy tits femen.” Or “big fat dog fucking pussy snorting femen.” You get the drift.

I suppose the saving grace of it all is that maybe, just maybe, the guys (I’m assuming) who typed in those pearls of wisdom were encouraged to stop and consider, if only for 30 seconds, the feminist perspective.

But I’m pretty sure that saving grace is actually a pipedream.

2010 was not entirely void of purpose, however. During the three months that I’ve been blogging, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering several avid bloggers whom I admire beaucoup. They’re intelligent and inspiring, sweet and snarky, and they all possess the eerie and captivating quality of seeming wise beyond their years.

These people are so cool, in fact, that I spent my afternoon making award badges for them with my pitiful Photoshop skills. The images are random drawings from my sketchbook that seemed to vaguely match each theme.

Excuse my French, but… holy SHIT. Have you seen this girl’s photo shoots? If not, I strongly encourage you to click the above link, right effing now. Age may be only a number, but it’s still pretty impressive that a young woman in her teens is regularly turning out photos that easily compete with the some of the best stuff you’ve seen in magazines or galleries. Her inspiration posts are rad as well, but the original material is definitely what keeps me coming back for more (and more). Keep your eye on her work; something tells me it’s going to blow everything out of the water…
