Congratulations : Bitchin’ Blog(ger)s in 2010

So, WordPress, my host site, recently sent out an e-mail to all of its users with a summary of overall blog stats for 2010. It was extremely personalized and even included the header photo from my most-visited article, which, needless to say, was very flattering. Kudos to the folks who designed the e-mail template: they sent the same fucking thing to a million people and I think each one of us ended up feeling special.

For me, the most interesting WordPress revelation was the list of top search terms that led to my site. Turns out, a lot of people come here by accident, and sometimes-to-usually they’re way off track. It’s a good thing that I’m fond of self-deprecating humor, because otherwise, the data could have seriously threatened my already flaky morale.

Let me lay it out for y’all. The top five search terms that brought internet vagabonds to Oh My Massilia in 2010 were: femen, oz of weed, yaeba, femen tits, and gainsbourg.

Now, I could almost be proud of that list, especially with Serge thrown in there, who obviously adds an ounce of class, and you’re probably wondering why I’m complaining.

Well, the thing is, while femen was the most common single word, it was virtually always accompanied by something inane and pornographic. I clearly remember seeing that googlers had been performing intense research on “sexy ass and vagina femen.” Or “huge juicy tits femen.” Or “big fat dog fucking pussy snorting femen.” You get the drift.

I suppose the saving grace of it all is that maybe, just maybe, the guys (I’m assuming) who typed in those pearls of wisdom were encouraged to stop and consider, if only for 30 seconds, the feminist perspective.

But I’m pretty sure that saving grace is actually a pipedream.

2010 was not entirely void of purpose, however. During the three months that I’ve been blogging, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering several avid bloggers whom I admire beaucoup. They’re intelligent and inspiring, sweet and snarky, and they all possess the eerie and captivating quality of seeming wise beyond their years.

These people are so cool, in fact, that I spent my afternoon making award badges for them with my pitiful Photoshop skills. The images are random drawings from my sketchbook that seemed to vaguely match each theme.

Drum roll, please…

Amazing Blogger Awards

édition janvier 2011

The Friendly Blogger award goes to…

Olivia at Cheap Frills!

This girl is just downright wonderful, and I highly recommend taking the time to check her out. She’s the kind of blogger that we’d all like to count among our friends… in the blogosphere and in real life. The one who leaves  meaningful comments that make you smile for days, and takes the time to give you a shoutout just because she’s that thoughtful, all while serving up pretty photos of her adorable self in cute knitted sweaters and piles of snow. Thanks for keeping our chins up, Olivia! :)

The Feminist Front award goes to…

Anne at Carnivalous!

Strong, unapologetic, and sharp-as-a-blade,  Anne’s writing is required reading material for anyone who wants to feel uplifted and refreshed. While the topics covered range from personal travels to Reverb responses, you can count on one thing every single time: smart femininity. Ahh…

The Creative Thinker award goes to…

Kelsea at Let’s Be Threads

Excuse my French, but… holy SHIT. Have you seen this girl’s photo shoots? If not, I strongly encourage you to click the above link, right effing now. Age may be only a number, but it’s still pretty impressive that a young woman in her teens is regularly turning out photos that easily compete with the some of the best stuff you’ve seen in magazines or galleries. Her inspiration posts are rad as well, but the original material is definitely what keeps me coming back for more (and more). Keep your eye on her work; something tells me it’s going to blow everything out of the water…

Happy New Year, everyone! Hopefully you all feel a little more prepared for 2011 with these lovely gals to keep you company.

Got anyone or anything you’d like to recommend? Hit up the comments, as usual!

Love,

Your Kitty

Ha, love the search terms! On one of my old blogs, I had “amish porn” as a common search term to get there.. must have had some sexy ankles showing somewhere.

Nice blog awards, too & love your sarcasm.

This blog is fantastic – I just love the layout. And arrrrgh so many great blogs you’ve linked to! My “check it out” bookmarks folder is bursting at the seams!

I totally feel you about the weird keyword searches. What really amazes me is that, as far as I know, those hits don’t turn up unless somebody actually clicks on the link in their search engine – which means they really thought my site had what they were looking for! So weird. Well, here’s so an awesome 2011!

  10. I’m glad I didn’t bother reading the New Years spam from WordPress ;P I know my “blog” is a hidden little thing far away from search engines and people in general, there is no point in trying to make it special. Not until I’ve got 1000 entries and 500 followers at least!

    Love your style!

LOL. I’ll bet what I spent on college tuition, double or nothing, that they didn’t. Posting bare breastesses on your blog and expecting that the pervs don’t show up is like waving filet mignon in front of a lion/tiger/liger and being surprised that they actually ate it. In short, if femen were more serious about combating sexual discrimination and public groping, they wouldn’t entice pervs by putting on a striptease in the subway, which is a novelty at best. They would actually try to affect their legislature in one way or the other. I don’t know, maybe they have and in that case good for them. Pour conclure, showing tits to advance women’s rights is like smoking cigarettes to disprove there’s no lung cancer.

Even with your “pitiful Photoshop skills” I think the blog awards look amazing.

  14. Chuck says:

Looking forward to checking these out.

Hopefully even if the pervs didn’t change their ways (which I am admitting is unlikely) they will have had a little tiny niggle of guilt that will clump on to the other little tiny niggles of guilt that must be circulating around their systems from general exposure to the real world and one day they will have a massive guilt-attack and change their ways/die…. Or not. Probably not. It was a nice idea though.

And, while I appreciate the lyger reference, Jason’s simile is crap. That comparison isn’t even nearly right.

  15. This is homekeepingheather from swapbot for the blog comments swap. That’s really nice of you to create awards and give recognition to blogs you like.:)
